14 December 1933 – London
We had a good look round the shops without buying anything. Selfridge’s first – where what I liked almost best was the zoological department. There was the most adorable kangaroo there with eyes like Lorenzo and a long pointed nose. It loved having its neck stroked and closed its eyes in ecstasy. I would have loved to have it – but it was sold – and anyway what would I have done with it? (S. 44)
